Liturgical Chaos in a Brave Modern Church

My hat is tipped to Father Larry Beane for posting this at Gottesdienst Online.  This video goes to show some of the lengths and manifestations of the chaos in which the Church must now subsist, and which unfortunately claim for themselves the name Church.  Some in the church today are happy to use images like these to argue that what they are doing in their own parishes with the Monday night youth mass, or in their courageous coffeehouse outreach mass, is acceptable since it isn't nearly as far outside of the liturgical tradition as are those cases.  In fact, such chaotic examples of "liturgy" serve to illustrate the true nature of a church that no longer appreciates her own evangelical and catholic tradition, and therefore serve as an apt warning for all of us.  In defense of exagerated characterizations in her writings, and use of the so called grotesque, Flanner O'Connor wrote, "To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the almost blind you draw large and startling figures."  Thus Father Larry is "shouting" to those who will yet hear, and I thank him.

Just to add fuel to the fire (regrettably, I guess), here's something that took place in our area this weekend ==> http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2011102230317

There was also a photo in the local paper of one of the pastors distributing the Body of Christ while wearing a Cat-in-the-Hat hat ... but I can't find that online ...
